_DONATE or SPONSOR a GREYHOUND SERVICE DOG for a Veteran
help heal the Spirit of a Returning War Hero with a Greyhound Service Dog
Our Veterans and these Service Dogs depend on your support and generosity to provide them with a service dog.
So, please consider remembering a loved one or a current friend with your donation. Thank you.
Our Purple Heart Greyhound Service Dogs are selected from Retired Racing Greyhounds of high-intelligence, laid back loving personalities, whose temperament and physical characteristics make them ideal PTSD Service Dogs Candidates. It costs PHGH $15,000 to provide a fully trained service dog to a Mentally wounded Hero. Using dogs that have been specifically selected, bred and fostered to be socially responsive and engaging will be a key to the success of this program, the same as it has been in the 2nd Chance at Life program which has spent over six years healing spirits and saving lives.
PTSD whether it is received by young men and women on the streets of the city jungles or the sands of the Iraqi desert, find there is no greater healing than the Animal/Human bond and the love of a dog. Whether isolated or resisting interaction with others, our greyhounds make it very difficult for their owners to isolate or resist the safe relationship offered by our dogs.
During their 4-6 month training process in our main Training Camp in Florida, dogs are taught to respond to the special disabilities of their owner. Once their human partner has been selected, they work together in a regimented training schedule with their Inmate trainer or Volunteer trainer to include commands that will lessen anxiety and depression, decrease dependence upon pain medications, provide sociability and provide a positive outlook and a mission-driven focus and renewed sense of purpose. They have found a new steadfast, loving companion service dog that will listen to their problems during their recovery and give them the security of knowing that their dog is there to help them any time it is needed.
